PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Children must be protected from sexual violence in armed conflict. Support for survivor-centered programs that prevent, mitigate, and respond to sexual violence and that put children and their needs at the center, while also fighting impunity, must be increased. Stigma and discrimination against child survivors of sexual violence, as well as for children born of sexual violence in conflict must be addressed.

  • Fund and implement targeted prevention, mitigation, and comprehensive child-centered services to prevent, end, and respond to sexual and gender-based violence faced by children in humanitarian settings

  • Support mechanisms that aim to ensure accountability for conflict-related sexual violence against children and other violations of children’s rights in armed conflict

  • Develop, adequately resource, and use national systems to hold individual perpetrators of sexual violence against children in conflict accountable, while safeguarding children’s safety and best interests

  • Support children to safely disclose incidents of sexual and gender-based violence, including conflict-related sexual violence
  • Promote holistic humanitarian support for child survivors of gender-based violence

  • Ensure protection, support and equal rights for children born of sexual violence in conflict
